Let RMC Builders maximize your storage space!
Our homes are our greatest asset, but can also be our greatest source of headache. While most homes have plenty of storage space, we find that we either underutilize the space or don’t really know how to maximize storage within this space. If this problem is familiar to you, then RMC Builders can work with you on a solution.
Story 1: ‘Closet Envy’
Recently, we worked with a couple who were faced with an ongoing problem of how to declutter their multi-use space, regain it as a work-from-home-office, and maintain it as an occasional guest space. While the area had great potential, in its current state, it was simply not working for them and was a cause of additional stress.
They decided they had to do something about their problem, so to alleviate their stress, they contacted RMC Builders.
Once they contacted us, we worked with them to re-imagine their space by reclaiming and organizing an underutilized set of closets. After an initial on-site consultation, we provided them with a project scope & cost benefit analysis which they agreed was worth the investment. Adam, our Project Manager, worked with them to discuss the construction process and to assist in envisioning the transformation. He continued to work with them throughout the process ensuring the project stayed on time and delivered on their vision.
First, we insulated and closed in the exterior walls of the closets to significantly reduce energy loss, which over the immediate and long-term, provides them with the added benefit of reduced energy costs and peace of mind. Then, we worked with them to install shelving which would accommodate their storage needs - in this case, large plastic bins, while leaving them an area for oversized items and those necessary, but seldom-used seasonal decor. Finally, we added lights to the closets and painted the walls resulting in a clean, bright, and fully usable and accessible storage area.
“My wife and I were struggling with storage in our home. We asked the RMC team to give us some advice on how we can find more storage in our ranch style home built in the early 50's. They identified one area that was unfinished space that we were under utilizing. They gave us a plan which included finishing the space with drywall, adding pull lights that didn't exist, and adding custom shelving along the wall that would allow for large bins. When they first started, they did a great job of sealing off our space which included our guest bedroom and office. All areas were sealed and floors were covered. The end product was a finished closet space, with lighting and a huge amount of shelving that we didn't have. There was also a vent that was exposed and rusted. They replaced the vent and covered it with a step that they custom built. We can't wait to put this storage to use!”

Story 2: ‘Getting Ready for Fall’
Fall is a great time to get your home in order, especially for those who have a basement! Basements provide great potential for storage -as we have presented in an earlier blog, ( tile and link to blog here) yet many hesitate to act because they view it as a monumental project and often don’t know where to begin. If this sounds like you, then RMC Builders can work with you on a solution.
For this project, our client’s challenge was a basement filled with ‘stuff’ that needed to be organized and accessible and at the same time they wanted to be able to fully utilize their basement.
As a part of our process, we arranged an on site meeting and then followed up with a written budget and a set of plans. The objective with this storage-solution-oriented project was to maximize the existing open space by creating rooms. Most people would probably ask why would you want to create rooms? Rooms were built to provide for out-of-site storage or to cordon off designated areas like the HVAC furnace from the kids, plan for a future gym area, provide for a workshop and utility area, and off-seasonal storage areas above and beneath the stairs. Additionally, incorporated into the design was custom built shelving based on our client’s needs. The finished product culminated in an additional 800 sq. ft. of living and storage space which is now neatly organized and fully functional.
Story 3: ‘Attic Serenity’
Who doesn’t love a basement…and attic? For those people lucky enough to have both an attic and basement available for storage and have the potential to be converted into additional living space, RMC Builders is here to help!
For this next project, our client had both a basement and an attic area she wanted to convert to more useful storage and living space. The challenges with this project were creating enough space based on our client’s needs to store overflow items while simultaneously incorporating space for additional needs like a washer/ dryer, fridge/freezer, office, bedroom, bathroom, and HVAC closet. We worked with our client to develop a plan for these spaces to achieve her goal.
In the basement we reclaimed unused space for a washer/dryer beneath the stairs, removed an old power room and installed a wash basin/laundry area. Installed a drop ceiling with bright LED lighting, custom-built storage, pantry shelving, an easy-to-clean vinyl plank flooring surface, and utility/ HVAC closet with more additional storage. The finished project resulted in reclaiming over 500 sq. ft. of space which previously was underutilized. In the attic, the objective was a work-at-home office and guest space. The design called for a full bathroom complete with a shower. As with any attic project, upon removal of the drywall, we found it to be severely under insulated. As an added bonus to properly insulating the attic, the HVAC system which was located in this area was able to function more efficiently. A large bedroom area with closet and custom shelving was added. The guest bedroom area was complimented by a new in-home-office complete with a large custom desk, shelving, and an en-suite bathroom. Upon completion of both projects, RMC Builders (hyperlink to website) successfully delivered on our promise to provide our client ‘A Comfortable Home She Can be Proud of!’
Story 4: ‘Closet Organization’
Having a space to put all of your seasonal wardrobe and accessories in an organized setting can be a daunting task. Not to fear, RMC Builders can help you with your closet woes. We have many clients who come to us requesting a build-out of their existing closets or who want to maximize and re-magine their closet capacity. For countless clients, we have successfully been able to provide them with both!
For this project, the client was faced with limited storage and also wanted his & hers closets to better organize each of their wardrobes, but also wanted them to be equal in size. We worked with the owners to give them both what they wanted by reclaiming unused space, re-configuring the closets to allow for easier access, adding in lighting, and providing custom shelving and storage tailored to their individual wardrobes. The finished product exceeded their expectations and as an added bonus they each had more space available for new wardrobes.
Story 5: ‘The issue – an awkward unusable space’
Our clients had an awkward and unusable space in their bedroom. There had been a pre-existing closet that was removed during a previous remodel because the layout of the bedroom was not working for them. Our job was to help implement their vision of a new closet that they could better utilize within this space. We built a new closet and added valuable storage space to an otherwise unused and underutilized area. The result is a functional and space-saving storage for their belongings. Additionally, the bedroom was refreshed with new crown molding, a shiplap accent wall, bi-fold barn door and new paint which complemented the new closet.
